THE VILLAGE PROJECT

“It takes a village to raise a child.” ~ African Proverb Welcome to “The Village Project”

What is “The Village Project”?

  • The Village Project is a grassroots campaign to raise funds for capital improvements at Fitzgerald Field, home of the Tucker (Youth) Football League. Our goal is to raise and receive at least $50,000 in tax deductible contribution in 2014 from past, present and future families of Fitzgerald Field.

How will funds be raised?

  • In this component of TFL’s capital campaign, funds will be sought from lump sum contributions and pledges to contribute from those who wish to become a part of TFL’s “Village”.

Why are these addition funds needed?

  • TFL has been a positive influence in the lives of children for almost 60 years. Countless boys and girls have benefited from the life lessons which can be learned through youth athletics. Many have been able to parlay the skills developed at TFL into scholarship opportunities and enhanced college experiences. Fitzgerald Field has been the home of this prestigious program since it was purchased with the help and endorsement of loyal volunteers in 1966. The ownership of this property is extremely unique for a youth sports program. Presently, however, this historic place is in dire need of improvements, replacements and renovations of its buildings and grounds. While the funds generated through registration and sponsorships for the activities at Fitzgerald Field are sufficient to cover the expenses of running the youth program, they are not enough to address the problems resulting from the erosion of the aging infrastructure.

What is expected from a member of “The Village”?

  • Once a contribution or pledge to contribute is made, TFL will expect that the contributor will honor their pledge. These members of “The Village” will be kept apprised of the success of the fundraising, and asked to provide input in an advisory capacity as to which capital improvement project(s) should be addressed. The TFL Board will consider the input from “The Village” when considering how the money received through this project will be used. The contributions made through this campaign will be kept in a separate bank account, jointly administered by a select member of “The Village Steering Committee” and a TFL Life Member, and overseen by the steering committee.

What control may a Village member have over money they have personally contributed?

  • A Diamond or higher Village Member  who makes a contribution through this campaign may ‘earmark’ the specific project they would like their donation to be applied to. If the steering committee believes the money could be better served to help complete a project of a more pressing need, they may approach the donor to seek permission to utilize the earmarked funds. Just as Fitzgerald Field was purchased and built through the generosity, efforts and contributions of caring volunteers, it can be restored by volunteers lead by members of “The Village”. The benefits of this tax deductible contribution made will be something that the contributor can witness, monitor and personally enjoy. There is no contribution than one that afford our youth an opportunity for personal development. This investment in the future is certain to pay dividends to many.

Thank you…and welcome once again to “The Village Project”.

Sincerely,

Rod Jones TFL Life Member / ”Village Project Coordinator
